BioEYES, a nonprofit outreach program using zebrafish to excite and educate K–12 students about science and how to think and act like scientists, has been integrated into hundreds of under-resourced schools since 2002. During the week-long experiments, students raise zebrafish embryos to learn principles of development and genetics. We have analyzed 19,463 participating students’ pre- and post-tests within the program to examine their learning growth and attitude changes towards science. With funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ (IMLS) Museums for America program, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden (Zoo) undertook a process of improving the interpretive experience of its Wings of the World exhibit, which concluded in summer 2018. The updated exhibition sought to enhance families’ connections to nature and inspire them to become better bird neighbors, in direct alignment with the Zoo’s strategic planning. This poster was presented at the 2018 Visitor Studies Association Conference. iSWOOP is a multi-year, multi-focus project, bringing national park-based research to visitors through innovative scientist-park ranger collaborations. As part of this study, researchers at the Institute for Learning Innovation set out to understand how visitor interests emerge during interpreter-facilitated conversations in national parks; how visitor interests relate to topics and facilitation strategies used by interpreters; and to what degree interactions might spark or reinforce ongoing interests.
