Fifty visitors to SMM were recruited on the exhibit floor of the museum and asked to view the first draft of a seven-minute movie being developed for the Science on a Sphere exhibit. Visitors were brought into a small room, sat down and viewed the movie on a computer laptop. After watching the movie, visitors were asked a series of questions to assess their interest, enjoyment, and particular aspects of the movie. Visitors aged eight and above were eligible to be interviewed.

Nanoscale Education Outreach (NEO) workshop participants were interviewed 6+ months after their attendance to determine the effect of the workshop on the participants' professional capacity and to determine the effect of the participants' involvement in the broader NISE Network. 33 of the 87 total participants were interviewed over several months.
This report evaluates the program entitled “Treating Tumors with Gold” by looking at visitor feedback in an attempt to assess the success with which the presentation was able to educate the public on a particular study using nanotechnology. This formative evaluation was conducted to see how the addition of an interactive media piece enhanced visitors' understanding of Nasturtium, a life sciences exhibit that demonstrates the water repelling properties of nasturtium leaves. The media piece allows the visitor to view leaf structures at progressively higher magnifications to better illustrate their scale and function.
