One but Not the Same: Non-Science Art in Science Education

This white paper describes outcomes from a conference about using non-science art in science education. Art and science are often combined for entertainment, education (STEAM) and inspirational value. However, in almost all cases the art is science-themed (scientific visualizations, science-inspired art, art about scientific topics, etc.). 2021 Poster - Train-the-Trainer Workshops as a Strategy to Extend Project Outcomes Focused on Interest, Relevance, and Self-Efficiency to Diverse Audiences?

The ChemAttitudes project recieved supplemental funding to create materials for train-the-trainer workshops in order to inoculate the chemistry outreach community with members who have the knowledge and resources to train others on strategies for stimulating interest, sense of relevance, and feelings of self-efficacy that were tested in the earlier work of the project. The project team recruited participants from minority serving professional organizations as a strategy for broadening participation. Can it work? Did it work? This poster was presented at the 2021 NSF AISL Awardee Meeting.

2021 Poster - Expanding Code SciGirls Camp to Engage African American Girls

This poster was presented at the 2021 NSF AISL Awardee Meeting. Since 2006, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab) through the Center for Integrating Research and Learning (CIRL) has offered a SciGirls Summer Camp to introduce middle school girls to various fields of science. Code: SciGirls was created in 2017 to increase the engagement in computer science studies and career paths for girls.
