Engineering in Early Childhood: Describing Family-Level Interest Development Systems

In this paper, we summarize the results of the two-year, National Science Foundation-funded Head Start on Engineering (HSE) project, designed to study and support engineering-related interest development for preschool children and their families from low-income backgrounds participating in Head Start. Low-income communities face ongoing barriers to accessing STEM learning resources and pursuing STEM-related careers. Alignment of the NASA Explorer School Model with Models for School Improvement and Reform

Based on the premise that one component of NASA's pre-college education program is intended to support and enact school reform, the Committee for the Evaluation and Review of NASA's Pre-College Education Program requested an analysis of how the NASA Explorer School (NES) Model aligns with other national models of school-wide improvement and reform. The purpose and focus of this paper is to summarize key elements of major school improvement and reform models as well as specific content reform models from the literature, and to analyze the extent to which there is alignment between these models

Working Together: Museums and Community Partners

PISEC is a four-museum partnership focused on education - the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Franklin Institute Science Museum, the New Jersey State Aquarium, and the Philadelphia Zoo. One of PISEC's Initiatives, Community Connections, forged a long-term relationship between museums and urban community organizations to help families learn more about the science education resources available to them in and around their neighborhoods. This document explores the Community Connections initiative, presenting insights and next steps related to the program.
