This article seeks to reflect on mediation in museums based on experiences that occurred in the “Learning in order to Teach” Project. In this article, Ingrid M. Kanics, OTR/L, Senior Play Environment Specialist, and Heather Scrivner-Mediate, Director of Communications & Business Development, both at Center for Creative Play, discuss the theory and practice of creating play environments that support children of all abilities. The design must incorporate the Principles of Universal Design, Developmentally Appropriate Practices, and Experiential Variety, which are described in this article.
