Sustainability Science and ISE (2012)

The Sustainability Science and Informal Science Education Convening was a small workshop of ISE-funded principal investigators and their project evaluators who were brought together to inform and improve how we do our work as ISE professionals on February 6th and 7th, 2012. The structure and content of the workshop included both theory and practice, and drew on participants' experience and reflections on work in this realm. Other attendees and facilitators included NSF program officers, outside experts, and CAISE staff, advisors and evaluators.

The intent of this convening was to deepen our collective understanding of sustainability science, explore how the ISE field can build capacity in this area, and to discuss future directions for our projects, NSF's investments and the field writ large. One of the goals was for actions and outputs from this workshop to flow into and inform strands of the March 2012 ISE PI Meeting. The discussions, outcomes and products from the workshop, as well as the materials and thinking that informed it, were shared with the ISE field via CAISE communication channels following the convening.
