CAISE Seeks Administrative Assistant

The Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE) is dedicated to advancing the fields of informal science education (ISE) and science communication by supporting and building on the rich diversity of projects supported by the Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program of the National Science Foundation (NSF). Under a cooperative agreement with the NSF, the Center provides resources to the practitioners, researchers, and evaluators across the ISE sectors, which include science centers and museums, mass media, youth and community programs, cyber learning and gaming, and other settings and environments.

The project’s leadership team consist of partners from academic institutions across the nation and the Project Director, who with the Center staff works from Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) headquarters in Washington.

CAISE activities include convening meetings, workshops and conferences, both face-to-face and online; contributing to user-friendly online resources, including a centralized database of NSF-funded projects; supporting and tracking CAISE initiatives; and participating in a variety of communication and outreach efforts.

Position Summary

CAISE’s Administrative Assistant will provide administrative support to the Project Director, staff, leadership, and advisors in implementing CAISE activities. The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Project Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide administrative and clerical support for the CAISE team.
  • Schedule and document in-person and virtual meetings and maintain digital archive
  • Provide logistical and technical support for CAISE convenings.
  • Manage calendars and track CAISE initiative and task force work.
  • Assist the Director, Online Producer, Digital Librarian and ASTC staff in monitoring progress, creating programmatic and financial reports, and processing payments to sub-awardees and consultants.
  • Track project budget.
  • Assist in routine maintenance and production of content for InformalScience.org
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel: Periodic travel (2-3x per year) may be required.

Qualifications summary:

Education and Experience:

  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with managing and documenting events
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in science, informal STEM education, and/or science communication
  • Familiarity with Google Drive applications, including Docs, Sheets, and Hangouts
  • Experience working in nonprofit organizations
  • Experience using a web content management system such as Drupal
