Professional Bio
I direct the teacher professional development programs of the Da Vinci Science Center, with a focus on developing and sustaining long-term, inquiry-based programs for science teachers from preschool through college.
I am co-Principal Investigator for the Math Science Partnership of Greater Philadlephia (http://www.mspgp.org), an NSF-funded 5-year professional development project for secondary science and math teachers. This project is a partnership of 46 school districts, 13 institutions of higher education, and several non-profit organizations including the Da Vinci Science Center.
I am also co-Principal Investigator for the Da Vinci Teacher Leader Institute (http://www.davinci-center.org/dvi.html), a teacher leadership program for K-7 science teaching in partnership with the Allentown City School District and Cedar Crest College, funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education Title IIb Math Science Partnership.
Other projects I have been involved in recently include the Family Inquiry Project (an intergenerational learning project sponsored by the Met Life Foundation), Get Energized (a 5-session PD workshop on energy and alternative energy sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection), and the Community of Modelers project (a project to teach teachers and the general public to use the Educational Global Climate Model (EdGCM) from Columbia University to run their own climate experiments).
