Professional Bio
Kate Taylor develops and produces children’s programs at WGBH, Boston's public television station, and has been a leader in her field for over 20 years. During the second half of her career she has acquired a particular interest and expertise in producing educational series with a curriculum in the sciences for children in a variety of age groups. She currently serves as Executive Producer of FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman and PEEP and the Big Wide World, both recipients of numerous awards, including the Emmy, and both funded by The National Science Foundation. She serves as Senior Executive Producer on the Peabody and Emmy award winning Design Squad, a series that teaches engineering skills to middle school students and is also funded by NSF. Previously she oversaw the production of such classics as ZOOM, Degrassi Junior High, and another Peabody award winner, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?.
Trained in curriculum development and as a classroom teacher, Taylor began her children's television career as segment producer for the original ZOOM in the 1970s,. In 1999 she remade the successful interactive television series for today’s children, embedding it with a science curriculum. She also developed and executive produced the first two seasons of PBS’s Ready to Learn interstitial programming and has served as executive-in-charge of ARTHUR. In addition, she has produced several series for adults. Ms. Taylor served as Associate Director of Children’s and Cultural Programming at PBS for three years and holds a Masters Degree in the Science of Education from the University of Pennsylvania.
